Our private tuition jobs board is launched

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Yesterday we officially launched our private tuition jobs board: Tutors Wanted.

Any student, parent, school or other organisation can post a request for tuition, and conversely, any tutor or teacher can reply to requests.

The service is free for both the enquirer and respondent (tutors not registered with us can answer requests by creating a free Basic Account), and everyone can keep up-to-date with the latest job opportunities by following The Tutor Pages on Twitter.

Even we’ve been surprised by the popularity of Tutors Wanted in its first week: it’s supposed to be the holiday season!

Just check out the new tutor jobs feature for yourself here:

Why is the tutor I need unavailable?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Tutors registered on The Tutor Pages have an option on their accounts to hide their contact button. There are dozens of reasons for this, including being overrun with enquiries.

However, one of the tutors listed with us – Sophie Garner – had a special reason for doing so.

She’s a singing teacher and recently faced every singer’s worst fear: a vocal operation. As far as she knows, she’s the only singer who has documented something like this on Youtube, and so wanted to let others know about it. Here’s what she told me,

Back in April of this year I had to undergo a vocal operation. This meant I was unable to speak for a week and unable to work for 8 weeks. I am still in vocal rehab now.  I have documented the experience from pre-op to my recovery. I think it would be interesting for other singers/voice users out there to watch the Vlog. I am already getting a great deal of emails from singers and voice users wanting advice which I am only too pleased to give.

You can watch the first of Sophie’s 10 Vlogs here:

Tutor Pages Enquiries Top 20,000!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Shortly after our launch (at the beginning of 2008) we started publishing statistics on the number of enquiries received by our registered tutors.  Since April 2008, the total number of enquiries to tutors has now just topped 20,000 (July 2010 figures). This figure excludes the many enquiries made by students after clicking through from our site to a tutor’s own website.

Our detailed statistics help us to ensure that all tutors registered with us are receiving a good number of enquiries.

For more details, just see our monthly statistics page.
