Twenty Totally Tootable Tunes

Friday, October 29th, 2010

It’s Friday, and as a musical counterpart to last week’s post about The Little Algebra Book, I’m pleased to say that another tutor registered with us, Trixi Field, has recently created a new book for the recorder. Called Twenty Totally Tootable Tunes, it is (in Trixi’s words) ‘more of a repertoire book to supplement teaching books, and book 1 of the series is for kids that are able to play between one and 7 notes’.

You can check it out on Trixi’s Lulu page – perhaps a good stocking filler?

As an aside, I also recommend that tutors have a look at Trixi’s own page on The Tutor Pages: it’s a really great example of using our site’s features to the full. In fact, Trixi wrote to me to say that she ‘enjoyed putting all my extra bits and pieces on the site. It works very well and there are lots of different spaces to put various resources. Well done for a very user-friendly site’.

The Little Algebra Book

As you might expect, tutors registered with The Tutor Pages are often at the top of their game: many are examiners in their subject, published authors or successful recording artists.

For that reason, I’m very pleased to mention a new maths resource created by Colin Beveridge (Tutor Pages tutor and (in his words) ex-NASA maths geek) and his award-winning graphic designer brother Stuart. It’s a colourful little introduction to algebra that aims to turn traditional maths textbooks on their head. Not only is it a snip at at £3.70 (incl. p&p), Colin and Stuart are donating 10% of all profits to the Disaster Emergency Committee.

Why not check out the Little Algebra Book website, or read Colin’s article about it on The Tutor Pages?

The Tutor Pages recommended in The Mirror

Friday, October 15th, 2010

An article in The Mirror newspaper earlier this week recommended The Tutor Pages as a place to find a singing teacher.

The article, How to sing like a star, suggests that, ‘If singing for Simon Cowell in front of a TV audience of millions sounds too daunting’ there are plenty of ways ‘to go and hit the high notes without all of that pressure’.

The Tutor Pages has also recently been reviewed by The Good Web Guide. You can check out the review here.
